Two Hearted Ale gets a gubernatorial shout out.
DETROIT, MI — Governor Gretchen Whitmer has been one to watch since being elected to lead Michigan’s executive branch last year. Last weekend, she joined an elite club of politicians when she became one to mock on NBC’s long-standing sketch comedy show, Saturday Night Live.
Actress Cecily Strong donned a brunette wig and a thick Midwestern accent to impersonate our governor on Saturday.
On Monday, Gov. Whitmer good-naturedly chatted with Fox 2’s Charlie Langton about the honor.
“It’s kind of funny, but they got the beer wrong. It should have been a Michigan beer, not Labatt. We love Canada, but we drink Michigan beer.”
Bell Brewery’s Two Hearted Ale took the spotlight over the Canadian brew when Gov. Whitmer shifted the focus to the Kalamazoo company.
Unlike the SNL version of the politician, Whitmer chose to keep her beer capped.
She showed more of her funny bone when an email blast went to past Democratic Party donors asking for help with her next election — and sharing her doppleganger’s SNL debut.
