MICHIGAN—After a tumultuous 2021, Michigan’s ready to ring in the new year.

You don’t have to go all the way to New York to enjoy the best of New Year’s Eve entertainment. In fact, Michigan has plenty of events that can beat watching the ball drop on television any day. ‘Ganders looking for the perfect place for a New Year’s champagne toast will have plenty of options. Even families with small children can enjoy New Year’s Eve, with some venues offering special programming before midnight specifically aimed at children.

We’ve rounded up seven events to ring in the new year with a Michigan-style bang.

Admission Price: $3 donation per person

Support local Traverse City charities with this celebration that is said to rival the Times Square New Year’s Eve celebration. Estimated attendance is at least 8,000. New Year’s Eve Parties at Treetops Resort (Otsego County)

Admission Price (Family): General admission is $35. Children ages 6-12 are $30. Children ages 5 and under are free.

This popular ski resort is offering two varieties of New Year’s Eve parties for all types of families. Both parties allow the opportunity to enjoy fireworks over the mountain at midnight. The family party in the Convention Center includes trivia, movies, kid-friendly drinks, and more. The adults-only party in the Oak Room features music, comedy, and more. A special plated dinner is also available in the Birch Room at an extra cost. Lodging packages are also available.

This free event in downtown Ludington boasts West Michigan’s largest New Year’s Eve Ball Drop. It features music from a live DJ, a beer tent, and plenty of party favors. At midnight, fireworks will light up the skies over downtown Ludington.

Enjoy fireworks from the boat docks on Saugatuck Bay with the historic Coral Gables Resort. The party will feature a dance bar, piano bar, and karaoke bar. Also includes a dinner package (prices TBA). At midnight, enjoy fireworks over the water.

Admission Price: General admission is $10 on the event day, and $7 if purchased in advance.

Kalamazoo has prepared a performing arts showcase that’s fun for all ages. The New Year’s Fest will feature a variety of live entertainment in multiple indoor venues, two outdoor heated tents, and Bronson Park Stage. Entertainers include contemporary, classical, and jazz musicians and bands, as well as live theatre, improv, magic, and more. Virtual options to stream performances from home are also planned.

South Haven has prepared a New Year’s Eve celebration for all ages. Kids can enjoy a special Youth Ball Drop, while the grown-ups stay up for the Beach Ball Drop and fireworks show at midnight. Plenty of dancing, a light show, and red carpet photo op will be available for a glamorous evening. The South Haven Ice Rink will also have a skating party at $20 per person.

Mount Clemens hosts two New Year’s Eve parties. The first one for children is usually held in the Children’s Hands On Museum earlier in the evening. For all ages, Main Street is blocked off with a Times Square-like party with live entertainment. Two fireworks displays are held, one for the kids and one for the stroke of midnight.
