Is Your Driver’s License Suspended? Michigan Officials Want to Help.

Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson’s office is hosting clinics to help drivers with suspended licenses complete the required steps to safely get back behind the wheel.

MICHIGAN—For the second year, the Michigan Department of State is hosting a series of clinics across Michigan to help drivers with suspended licenses regain their driving privileges.

The “Road to Restoration” program helped more than 4,000 Michiganders get back behind the wheel last year through a series of 18 clinics in 11 cities, including Alpena, Benton Harbor, Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids, Lansing and Traverse City. At each clinic, Michiganders can meet individually (and for free) with state officials who can then guide them through the restoration process.

“Making state government work for the people of Michigan by meeting them where they are has been one of my top priorities as Secretary of State,” Benson said in a statement.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s office also provides support for the program.

“It’s simple: licensed drivers are safer drivers, and improved access to transportation helps families, businesses, and communities thrive,” Nessel said in a statement.

Last November, Benson’s office announced that her office had lifted license suspensions for more than 150,000 Michiganders after new state laws took effect ending suspensions for drivers who failed to pay court costs or fines, or failed to appear in court for certain violations.

Infractions were also removed from the records of more than 350,000 drivers,but state law still requires Michiganders to take action before their licenses can be fully restored. The “Road to Restoration” clinics are designed to provide assistance to drivers, and expedite the process.

Clinics will be held in Grand Rapids, Lansing, Detroit, Downriver, Mt. Pleasant, Alpena, and the Upper Peninsula. Click here to find details about the clinics, or dial 211 for more information.
