MSU Extension now offers a range of free online classes for parents, caregivers, and early childhood professionals.

These courses aim to provide guidance and resources to help navigate the challenges and joys of child-rearing and early childhood development, from infancy to the teenage years.

Michigan State University (MSU) Extension offers extensive online courses and resources, including Parenting Hour, a series of free workshops running on Tuesday evenings from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m. EST. Topics cover a variety of parenting issues such as positive discipline, language development, making food fun for picky eaters, and supporting children through grief and loss.

Other parenting education series include Guiding Principles for Highly Successful Parenting, focusing on aspects such as routines, emotional control, rules, relationships, and assertive parenting techniques. The Parent Talk System is a six-week series designed to improve communication and provide practical strategies for raising confident, caring, responsible children. Both of these series provide certificates of attendance upon completion.

Special classes are designed specifically for kinship caregivers, those relatives who are caring for another relative’s children. Also, a range of professional development classes are available for early childhood professionals. These classes are eligible for MIRegistry Credit.

MSU Extension has also partnered with the Livingston County Child Abuse Prevention Council to offer an online infant safety course. The program includes videos and interactive content on infant safe sleep, handling extended infant crying, and guidelines for transporting children safely.

For more information and assistance, participants are encouraged to reach out to their local Extension office or find a Child and Family Development team member in their vicinity. Updates and resources are also regularly posted on the MSU Extension’s Facebook page, MI Stronger Family – MSU Extension.
