Looking to buy a local farm-grown Thanksgiving turkey in Michigan? Shop local for Turkey Day from these Michigan farmers, bakers, and restaurant owners.
Two years ago, I got a phone call from our local post office. The attendant on the other end sounded frustrated as she informed me that my baby turkeys had arrived and I needed to come pick them up. Chirps from the baby birds filled the air as I informed her I hadn’t actually ordered any turkeys.
A few confused phone calls later, I discovered that a Michigan poultry farm I normally order baby chickens from had accidentally shipped me nearly 50 baby turkeys instead. I was not interested in raising 50 turkeys, so my sister-in-law happily took them off my hands and raised them as Thanksgiving turkeys. It turns out that she and her husband love being turkey farmers, and this year, we will now be enjoying our second annual locally-raised turkey with them. Having now officially tasted a farm-fresh, locally raised turkey, I can attest that they are better than anything you can buy at the store.
If you’re not so lucky as to have 50 baby turkeys accidentally shipped to your sister-in-law who will turn them into your Thanksgiving meal, fear not: We’ve rounded up Michigan farms where you can order your Thanksgiving turkey from, along with some local options for ordering desserts, sides, and even full Thanksgiving meals. Gobble gobble!
Joe’s Farm
Three Rivers, MI
Along with pasture-raised chickens, pork, and beef, Joe’s Farm is known for its Thanksgiving turkeys—so much so that their 12 and 13-pound turkeys have already sold out on their website. However, there are still plenty of 14, 15, and 16-pound options available. Joe’s Farm’s turkeys are pasture-raised, rotated regularly for fresh eating, and fed non-GMO feed. And the best part? You can order online, and the turkey will ship out to you in time for Thanksgiving. Bon appetit!
Better Place Farm
Lowell, MI
As another online farm-fresh turkey ordering option, savvy shoppers can order their Thanksgiving turkey from Better Place Farm in Lowell and get free shipping! (Keep in mind there are some restrictions on delivery, so if you’re not local, be sure to check with the farm before purchasing.) The farm offers two ordering options: a smaller heritage turkey that finishes around 11-15 pounds or a broad-breasted white meat turkey that finishes around 16-20 pounds. Ordering does require a non-refundable deposit, but it’s well worth it for these humanely-raised, hormone-free turkeys.
Cornwell’s Turkey Restaurant
Marshall, MI
Having dubbed itself “Turkeysville, USA,” you could say that Cornwell’s Turkey Restaurant is the Queen of Thanksgiving. Cornwell’s is more than a restaurant—it’s an attraction, a campground, a full-service restaurant, a store, and even a dinner theater with tons of local classes and events. The restaurant also offers full catering and a take-out meal for Thanksgiving. The restaurant is closed on the day of Thanksgiving, but all orders can be picked up in time for the big day.
Sogi’s Kitchen & Catering
Macomb Township, MI
If you have your eye on a Thanksgiving pie, look no further than Sogi’s Kitchen and Catering, which not only offers a fan-favorite cannoli pie but also lets customers build their own pie by choosing their base and filling. You can also pick up an alternative to the traditional turkey dinner on Thanksgiving by ordering from the Italian-themed catering company and serving up your guests offerings like garlic knots, alfredo, baked ziti, and antipasto salad.
Ropertis Turkey Farm
Livonia, MI
The TikTok star known as the “Turkey Lady” runs Ropertis Turkey Farm in Livonia and sells fresh, never-frozen turkeys for the big day. The Ropertis farm has been selling locally raised, hormone-free turkeys for an impressive 76 years in a row. To place an order, call the farm directly at 734-464-6546. There are various pick-up times available leading up to Thanksgiving. The farm also sells locally raised ham if the turkey is not your jam.
Scratch BBQ & Catering
Flint, MI
Leave it to Flint town to offer not only a full Thanksgiving menu but also delicious barbecue pulled pork, beef brisket, or St. Louis-style ribs to adorn your table with gratitude. Choose-your-own-sides include cornbread, mac-and-cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, potato salad, coleslaw, or spaghetti salad. And for dessert (which is ala carte), you have your choice of strawberry shortcake, peanut butter cake, S’mores bars, and key lime or pecan pie. All orders must be placed by November 24 and picked up on November 28 from 10-11:30 a.m.
Wagon Wheel
Crosswell, MI
If you’ve ever wished for a drive-through option on Turkey Day, hit the road over to Crosswell, MI, because this small town just south of Lexington offers in-person, pick-up, and drive-through meal options for Thanksgiving. Veterans and those over age 65 can enjoy a home-cooked Thanksgiving feast for only $15, while other adults can nab a solo turkey meal for only $17. Family meals are also available, and anyone looking for company on the big day can enjoy dining in from 2-6 p.m.
Sylvia’s Catering of Michigan
Jackson, MI
This woman-owned small business is serving up plenty of delicious options for anyone who wants someone else to do the prep. For instance, you can enjoy homemade cranberry sauce, sweet rolls, fennel sausage stuffing with caramelized onions, Brussels sprouts with smoked bacon and a balsamic reduction, and, of course, turkey brined with Michigan cider. Sylvia’s Thanksgiving feast—which will feed 6-8 people—only costs $160 and will be ready for pick-up the day before Thanksgiving, so on the big day, all you need to do is sit back and serve it up!

Black Star Farms
Suttons Bay, MI
The Suttons Bay and Traverse City area may be known for having the best wines in the state, but you can also pick up a full, ready-to-serve Thanksgiving meal from the Blackstar Farms winery. Their Thanksgiving meal includes a hard-apple cider brined free-range turkey, traditional French green bean casserole, an autumnal farm salad, roasted rainbow carrots with a rosemary orange glaze, sage and honey crisp apple stuffing, a sweet potato bake, and to top it all off, a pumpkin crostata with vanilla whipped cream for dessert. Yum!
All orders must be placed by Tuesday, November 12 by 5 p.m. and are pick-up only. The cost for the Thanksgiving feast is $200 and the food will serve 4-6 people. Heating instructions are included as well for all food that needs to be eaten warm.
Mitten Made Baking Co.
Belding, MI
Last but not least, every Thanksgiving feast needs a sweet treat to finish off the meal, and who better to order your Turkey Day desserts from than a purely Michigan company named Mitten Made Baking Co.? The small-batch bakery makes everything by hand and offers local delivery only in the Ionia/Greenville MI area or porch pickup for hungry customers. Choose from mouth-watering desserts like apple pie bars, pecan pie bars, pumpkin bars, or make everyone happy with a cookie sampler.
