Michigan Gov. Whitmer announced that two manufacturing companies are expanding to Genesee County, opening up 150 new jobs.
Michigan’s manufacturing landscape is evolving as two Burton-based companies announce major expansion plans that promise to bring 150 new jobs and nearly $7.8 million in investment to Genesee County. The developments mark a significant shift in the region’s industrial focus, highlighting its growing prominence in the HVAC and cooling systems sector.
Major expansion projects boost Burton’s industrial sector
Custom Air Handling Solutions and Fluid Cooling Systems are embarking on significant growth initiatives that demonstrate Burton’s emerging role as a hub for specialized manufacturing. The expansions come at a time when Genesee County has seen a 73% growth in the plumbing, heating, and air-conditioning industry over the past decade.
“Today, I’m excited to announce two Burton, Michigan companies are expanding their operations in our state, creating 150 good-paying jobs in Genesee County,” Governor Whitmer said in a press release. “I remain committed to making sure that anyone can make it in Michigan.”
Custom Air Handling Solutions invests in new facility
Custom Air Handling Solutions is investing $5.275 million in a new 50,000-square-foot facility to meet growing customer demand. The expansion will create 68 new positions with starting wages of $25 per hour plus benefits, surpassing the regional median wage by more than $4.
Jason Kinney, General Manager for Custom Air Handling Solutions, expressed enthusiasm about the company’s future in Burton: “We are excited to be in Burton and we have already found great local talent, vendors and support. We are looking forward to years of growth and connection to this community.”
Fluid Cooling Systems expands local operations
Fluid Cooling Systems plans to invest over $2.5 million in facility updates and new equipment, creating 82 new jobs with $22 per hour starting wages plus benefits. The Burton-based company, which started in 2011, has earned recognition on Inc.’s 2025 list of 139 Companies Making an Outsized Impact in the Midwest.
“We at Fluid Cooling Systems are deeply grateful to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation for their partnership in our expansion,” said Bob Antaya, President of Fluid Cooling Systems. “Their support not only fuels our innovation but also strengthens our commitment to revitalizing the Flint community.”

State support and economic impact
Both expansions receive support from the Michigan Strategic Fund through Michigan Business Development Program grants, totaling $410,000 for Custom Air Handling Solutions and $575,000 for Fluid Cooling Systems. The companies chose Michigan over southern locations due to its strategic Midwest location, skilled workforce, and established business relationships.
