Michiganders’ electricity bills keep climbing.
And one reason is how often utility companies are allowed to ask state regulators for rate increases.
Under current law, utilities can request a rate hike every year. A new proposal from state Sen. Kevin Hertel (D-St. Clair Shores) would slow that process by stretching rate cases to once every three years—giving households more predictability and regulators more time to scrutinize costs.
