MICHIGAN—Cannabis is a big deal in Michigan—and there’s never a shortage of newsworthy headlines from the industry as the state inches closer to becoming the nation’s weed capital.

Here are 7 things you need to know this week:

GREEN RUSH: Michigan dispensaries are reportedly selling more weed than ever, with the state’s retailers selling a new record high of more than 103,000 pounds of bud in November. Prices are also at one of their lowest points ever, which could soon spell trouble for the industry

RULE-BREAKERS: State regulators reportedly took disciplinary action against 30 cannabis businesses in November—including complaints that ranged from selling recalled products to failing to divulge the THC content on prerolls. Eight of the businesses were in Detroit.

MERGED MARKET: With medical marijuana sales declining, legislators and cannabis leaders are reportedly eying plans to combine the medical and adult-use markets—even though legislation that sought to do so failed to advance to a vote in last year’s legislative session.

NO STATE LAB: State legislation that had sought to create a new, statewide marijuana reference testing laboratory was also shelved at the end of last month’s legislative session.

POT FOR PTSD: The US Food and Drug Administration has approved a clinical trial to study the potential benefits that smoking marijuana may have for people with post-traumatic stress disorder. The study will reportedly involve 320 veterans, including Michiganders.

NEW SCHOOL: A recent nationwide survey from the University of Michigan shows that marijuana use among teens has declined over the last 10 years, with the percentage of 8th, 10th, and 12th graders who say they smoke weed now at its lowest point in 30 years.

JUST GOOD WEED: A helpful new list published this month at Leafly highlights some of Michigan’s most award-winning cannabis strains—along with details on where to buy them.
