A weekly roundup of Michigan protests, political events, advocacy opportunities, and ways to take action statewide–Friday, Feb. 20 through Thursday, Feb. 26. 

Want to get politically engaged this week? From a protest against an ICE detention facility in Romulus to workshops on local elections and running for school board, there are plenty of ways to take action virtually or close to home.

Here’s our weekly round-up of upcoming events and actions:

Friday (Feb. 20)

Traverse City Indivisible: Weekly Good Trouble Assembly Rally, (Traverse City, 12-1 p.m.)
A rally to call on Congress to protect democracy and stop ICE.

Dexter Strong, Dexter Cares: “Turn ‘I’ into ‘We’” Weekly Protest, (Dexter, 4:30-5:30 p.m.)
A protest to support democracy.

Saturday (Feb. 21)

Indivisible: Stop The Overreach! Uphold the Constitution, (Paw Paw, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.)
A protest in support of defunding ICE, releasing the Epstein files, and ensuring politicians follow the law.

Ann Arbor ICE OUT: Weekly ICE OUT Protest, (Ann Arbor, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.)
A protest against ICE.

Indivisible: Weekly Rage Against the Regime, (Mount Pleasant, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.)
A rally for democracy.

Kent County Indivisible and Common Defense: Mobilization Peace Training, (Grand Rapids, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.)
A training on violence de-escalation tactics and community safety.

Indivisible: ICE OUT For Good & Signs Of Fascism March, (Saugatuck, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.)
A rally for democracy and against ICE.

Voters Not Politicians: Your Story. Your Power. Your Vote. Detroit Community Storytelling Event, (Detroit, 12-3 p.m.)
A community event with Voters Not Politicians, Common Cause, All Voting Is Local, the Voting Access for All Coalition, and local voting rights groups about how the proposed proof-of-citizenship laws could restrict your right to vote.

Kent County Democratic Party: Born to Run! Run for Elected Office in Kent County, (Grand Rapids, 12-4 p.m.)
A hands-on session on running for office, with election experts. 

The People’s Coalition: People’s Power Tour-Congressional District 3, (Grand Rapids, 12:30-2:30 p.m.)
A community-building event.

Equality Michigan: Phone Bank for Equality, (Virtual, 1-3 p.m.)
Receive training before contacting voters in Michigan to identify and mobilize voters in support of equality and inclusion.

KCQC: ICE OUT Everywhere, (Grand Rapids, 1:30-2:30 p.m.)
A protest against ICE.

Michigan United Action: Spades and Games-A Policy Reform Night, (Detroit, 6-9 p.m.)
An interactive event connecting Black history to current civic and social issues through games and conversation. Limited capacity available.

Sunday (Feb. 22)

Indivisible: ICE OUT-Community Weekly Vigil, (Saugatuck, 5:30-6:30 p.m.)
A community-led ICE Out vigil for reflection and collective care.

Michigan United Action: Know Your Rights, How to Respond if Confronted by ICE, (Houghton, 6-8 p.m.)
Know your rights against ICE and receive preparedness forum training with Keweenaw Against the Oligarchy, a hub of Michigan United Action, Keweenaw Mutual Aid Committee, Keweenaw Socialist, and Graduate Student Government.

Michigan United Action: Money Out of Politics Orientation, (Virtual, 6:30-8 p.m.)
Learn about the ballot initiative to get money out of politics and how you can get involved.

Monday (Feb. 23)

Western Wayne Indivisible & Downriver United 734: No Ice Facility In Romulus Protest, (Romulus, 5:30-7:30 p.m.)
A protest against an ICE detention facility in Romulus, followed by a call to attend the Romulus City Council meeting immediately after.

Michigan Education Justice Coalition: Intro to Running for School Board, (Virtual, 6:30-8 p.m.)
A training for those interested in running for their local school board. 

Tuesday (Feb. 24)

Berrien County Democratic Party: Weekly Peaceful Protests, (St. Joseph, 12-12:30 p.m.)
A protest to stand together, be visible, and show solidarity.

Indivisible: Waterford Resistance Dems & Friends, (Waterford TWp., 3:30-5 p.m.)
A protest against the Trump administration.

Good Trouble Indivisible: ICE OUT: Community Think-Tank, (Douglas, 5:30-7 p.m.)
An open, inclusive space for community members to come together to talk, listen, and think critically about ICE and immigration enforcement.

Equality Michigan: Phone Bank for Equality, (Traverse City, 5:30-7 p.m.)
Receive training before contacting voters in Michigan to identify and mobilize voters in support of equality and inclusion.

Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan: Craft and Care No Matter What, (Kalamazoo, 6-7:30 p.m.)
A community gathering to connect, craft, and hear updates on Planned Parenthood of Michigan’s services.

Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan: Fond of Storytelling, (Virtual, 6-7:30 p.m.)
A storytelling training designed to uplift the voices of young people who support reproductive justice.

Kent County Democrats: Politics 101: Neighborhood to Nation, (Grand Rapids, 7 p.m.)
An opportunity to learn about why local leadership matters, hear the mission of the Kent Dems, and learn how you can get involved.

Wednesday (Feb. 25)

Governor Gretchen Whitmer: State of the State Address
Gov. Whitmer will deliver her final State of the State Address on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m. Find streaming options here.

Michigan United Action: Money Out of Politics Orientation, (Virtual, 6:30-8 p.m.)
Learn about the ballot initiative to get money out of politics and how you can get involved. 

Red, Wine, & Blue: New year-New Elections Michigan Edition, (Virtual, 7-8 p.m.)
An informative meeting on Michigan politics, including key races and how to make a change in local government.

Thursday (Feb. 26)

Indivisible: Clarkston PerSisters Weekly Rally for Democracy, (Independence Township, 3:30-5 p.m.)
A rally to defend democracy and our Constitution, protect healthcare, Social Security, public education, working families, veterans, LGBTQ+ rights, and immigrants.

Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan: Queer Volunteer Night, (Detroit, 4-6:30 p.m.)
A volunteer night with connection, conversation, food, and giveaways for queer people and those in the ally community. 

Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan: Raiz Lansing Virtual Volunteer Night, (Virtual, 6-7:30 p.m.)
An opportunity to learn how you can get involved in the fight for Michigan’s Latinx communities.

Michigan Democrats: People’s Town Hall with Rep. Jason Crow & Chair Curtis Hertel, (Kalamazoo 6-8 p.m.)
A town hall with Curtis Hertel and Rep. Jason Crow to share how you have been impacted by Trump and the Republicans’ agenda. 

Indivisible: Meet Your Candidates: A Forum for All Voters, (Hastings, 6-9:30 p.m.)
A forum to meet and hear from statewide candidates on key issues, including healthcare, immigration/ICE, the economy, foreign policy, elections, and voting.
