LANSING—Last month, officials at the Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency said they would ramp up enforcement on unlicensed marijuana sales. And this week, they’re keeping their word.
State officials on Wednesday temporarily suspended the medical and adult-use processor licenses for a Lansing-based cannabis company after it was found to have laced its products with illicit marijuana additives before selling them on the regulated market, among other allegations.
According to state officials, the cannabis products include those marketed by TAS Asset Holdings LLC under the brand “Fwaygo Extracts,” with the product name “Space Rocks.”
The complaint alleges that two packages of vape cartridges failed safety compliance testing for Bifenthrin, a chemical banned from use in the regulated market. Officials said surveillance footage showed that the product used to make the vape cartridges was not the same product recorded in the statewide monitoring system. A company official also allegedly admitted that the businesses’ signature product, “Space Rocks,” was produced using unlicensed THCa powder.
Additionally, state regulators found many areas of the processing facility to be “dirty and cluttered” with several “leaking containers” of marijuana products and waste. Investigators also said an unlicensed warehouse was being used as part of the licensed business—which allegedly housed several barrels of unknown substances and illicit cannabis oil.
All told, the complaint alleges 23 different regulatory violations against each of TAS Asset Holdings’ processor licenses. The company can choose to contest the allegations—and state law also provides for a hearing to determine whether the license suspensions should remain in effect.
Those who have experienced adverse reactions after using these products are encouraged to report them to state officials at [email protected] or by calling 517-284-8599.
