On National Small Business Day, the Flint & Genesee Economic Alliance and General Motors announced a new cohort of businesses for the Moving Flint Forward small business program. The event took place at the Berston Field House in Flint, Michigan, where 17 new businesses each received a $10,000 grant and seven alumni businesses were each awarded $5,000 for continued growth.
Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley expressed his support for the entrepreneurs, thanking them for starting and growing their businesses in the city. He highlighted the city’s commitment to helping small businesses thrive and emphasized the strength of the Flint community. He also expressed his anticipation for continued partnerships with the businesses, community organizations, and entrepreneurs in attendance.

The Moving Flint Forward Small Business Grant Program is a joint initiative between General Motors and the Flint & Genesee Economic Alliance. With funding support from General Motors, the program provides grants to Flint small businesses in hopes of expanding revitalization efforts across the city. The goal is to support local businesses and empower the community to do vital work in support of Flint residents.
Among the grant recipients were a variety of businesses from different sectors. These included 810 Comedy Improv, an entertainment business specializing in improvisation comedy; Amazing Tents and Chairs, an event/party rental company; and Citizens Statewide Security INC, a security alarm company. Food vendors like Gordo and Flaco’s Tacos, I Love Pig, INC, and Suso’s Pizza LLC were also part of the cohort. Other recipients ranged from retail and rental services to healthcare providers and architectural firms. Find the full list here.
