Pack your bags, and your bowl, because these summer Michigan activities are even better while stoned.

During the summer, Michigan transforms into a lush paradise, teeming with natural beauty and abundant outdoor activities. Whether you’re enjoying an afternoon hike amidst Great Lakes scenery or exploring Michigan’s state parks and other attractions, cannabis can enhance the experience. We’ve packed together a list of the Wolverine State’s top summertime activities that pair well with weed to ensure you have a great summer while keeping your high rolling right along.

One more thing:, it should go without saying, of course, but please be sure to consume responsibly while out there this summer. Be careful to not over consume and use a designated driver whenever you’re out in the world.

Nothing says summer in West Michigan like an evening at the Getty Drive-In. The Muskegon cultural institution has entertained locals and summer tourists alike for decades. Muskegon has also become a mecca for cannabis, boasting several top-notch retail locations to ensure you’ll find what you need when you’re in town.

While you’re in town, stop into the House of Evolution to ensure your movie night goes off without a hitch. While you’re there, be sure to grab “Entourage” gummies from their in-house brand, Evolution Edibles. The gummies are sourced from high-quality and notably clean ingredients. In addition, the various spreads of cannabinoids are sure to offer something for everyone.

Speaking of the Drive-In, you’re allowed to bring your own food. So, plan ahead to satisfy any post-smoking munchies. Forgot your snacks? No worries: there’s a fully stocked concession stand with all the movie theater staples you would expect, like popcorn, candy, hot dogs, and soda.

Few places are more idyllic and quintessentially Michigan than the Upper Peninsula. For a more far-out experience, be sure to check out Lakenenland Sculpture Park in Marquette—famous for its funky steel sculptures and other art installations. The sprawling outdoor grounds are open 24 hours a day and are free for everyone to visit.

The area near the sculpture park offers numerous sparsely populated areas, trails, and waterfalls where you can enjoy a surreptitious smoke before or after your visit to the roadside sculpture park.

The area is also home to Michigan cannabis powerhouse The Fire Station. Stop in any of their 10 UP locations and grab an infused pre-roll from Element. The taste, top-notch quality, and amazing terp profiles will be a perfect pairing for a walk at Lakenenland.

See the cosmos at Michigan’s Dark Sky Parks

Michigan has two designated dark sky parks: Headlands International Dark Sky Park, near the Mackinac Bridge, and the Lawless Dark Sky Preserve in southwest Michigan. Summer is a great time to view galaxies with minimal equipment, and the constellations and visible planets offer stunning night sky views. Both dark sky parks are open all night and offer various programs that give the public opportunities to observe the night sky with the help of local astronomy volunteers.

To prepare for your voyage into the cosmos, stop into the local Jars to pick up a disposable live rosin vape from 710 Labs. The discreet and potent option will give you cerebral, heady effects as you take in the galactic views in some of Michigan’s darkest areas.

Enjoy the waves at New Buffalo beaches

Is it even summer without a trip to the beach? We’re blessed to be surrounded by the Great Lakes, so the options are plentiful. Southwest Michigan has some of the most sought-after beaches on Lake Michigan. There are numerous public access beaches and smaller access sites off of road sides in the area. The city offers many idyllic options for visitors, and the area’s proximity to the state border has facilitated a recent explosion in the local cannabis scene.

Stop into the recently opened, family-owned Pharmhouse Wellness while you’re in town and pick up some pre-roll packs from Redemption Cannabis. The 10—and 28-packs are convenient when you’re on the go and enjoying the area’s natural beauty. Best of all, you’re helping to right the wrongs of cannabis prohibition by supporting Redemption, a company that uses 10% of its revenue to fund restorative justice campaigns.

Travel through time at the Henry Ford Museum

We’re heading indoors for this one because the Henry Ford Museum is one of my favorite places to spend a summer day.  Its sprawling facility can be a welcome relief in the deep summer heat or an excellent option for a rainy day. Its eclectic collection includes all things automotive, trains, and almost anything else that has an engine.  The museum also boasts traveling exhibits and an IMAX screen. Last but not least is Greenfield Village-Henry Ford’s ambitious project that brought various historic homes, farms, and other staples of small-town America to a large area directly adjacent to the Henry Ford Museum.

Stop into the nearby Flower Bowl and grab some gummies from True North. The cannabis OGs have been in the game since before Michigan’s 2018 recreational legalization, and their recipes and quality demonstrate that earned expertise. This is a great way to discreetly enjoy a stony afternoon at the museum. The Flower Bowl offers a variety of flavors from True North and many other reputable brands that’ll easily let you find the best option for a great visit.
