These Michigan products are worth the premium price tag.
If you’ve been to a dispensary In Michigan recently, then you know the price of weed is cheap!
In a nutshell, there are too many people growing a lot of legal weed right now, and cannabis prices are the lowest we have ever seen in Michigan. Even with those cheap prices and the most intense competition from producers to gain market share, there are still a handful of brands whose products regularly sell for much higher retail price points—sometimes multiple times the cost of other products in the same segment.
What is a consumer to do? Is the expensive price tag really worth it? And if so, what justifies the inflated price point? I thought it would be an ideal time to highlight offerings from three high-priced Michigan producers to help you decide if it’s really worth the extra cash.
Element Concentrates from Lion Labs
Live Resin Concentrates: $30-35 per gram
Live Resin “Pure Live” cartridge: $35.00-40.00 per half gram
Infused live resin joint: $15-20.00 per one-gram joint
Lansing-based Element Extracts is known for quality, high standards, and amazing terps. The company has products in many segments, but its live resin concentrates and live resin-infused joints are some of my favorites and, in my opinion, always worth the premium pricing.
Element only sources the material for its concentrates from cultivators that meet a relentlessly high threshold for quality; the result is some of the best and most consistent extracts in Michigan. Be sure to grab some of the infused joints and taste the difference live resin and natural terps make in your infused doobie.

Old School Organics Flower
$10.00 per gram
$35.00 per eight
$10.00 per 1G full flower pre-roll
Any offering from Michigan natives Old School Organics will be on the higher-tiered shelves at your local dispensary. The small company is true to its namesake and takes great care and attention to hand water all its plants to ensure their proprietary all-organic super soil gives its award-winning strains the proper amount of inputs and attention.
The producers also take good care to ensure their flower is always given at least a 30 degree cold cure—preserving the flower as it was harvested—to ensure maximum terp profile, smooth taste, and a top-notch smell off the jar. All the individual attention makes one outstanding product and a price point that reflects it—Especially compared to the rest of the market and the ongoing price compression.
The taste and effect of all the Old School organic strains I have tried have been nothing short of amazing. They always stand out as a hallmark of the genetics they hail from. The consistency and devotion to quality are worth the extra couple of bucks. Be sure to treat yourself to their line of full flower pre-rolls so you can experience the unique taste and effect of all their strains.

Ice Kream Hash Co.
Solventless Live Rosin: $35.00 per 1G
Live Rosin Cartridge: $45.00 per .5G
Infused Live Rosin joint: $18.00 per 1G
I can’t personally recommend anything that has as high a level of quality in the legal cannabis market as Ice Kream Hash Co. While pricier compared to most concentrates, this is world-class hash.
The producers hail from mid-Michigan and have some of the most diverse hash offerings, including old-school bubble hash and temple balls. In addition to Vietnam War-era throwbacks, the top-shelf live rosin offerings are all very high quality with unique terp profiles that have been refined over time as the company has become dialed into its solventless production—which means no chemicals in your product.
My favorite product from these folks has to be the “Neapolitan,” a 2.5 G infused joint with three different strains of flower and three different strains of live rosin. The $40.00 joint is definitely a bit pricey, but it’s an excellent option for a social gathering or a special celebration. Mine smoked very well, and the mix of strains and oil made the smoke as unique as it was potent.
