Voyage Bloom is making its mark on Michigan’s weed scene with award-winning strains, bold new flavors, and an unwavering commitment to quality and accessibility.
FLINT—Michigan stoners are spoiled for choice these days, but not all weed is created equal.
Some Michigan weed brands are all hype, others are overpriced, and a select few actually live up to the buzz. Enter Voyage Bloom, a Flint-based craft cannabis company that’s quietly growing some of the best marijuana in the state—and making it accessible for everyday stoners.
You may not have heard of them until recently, but they’re not exactly low-key anymore.
Voyage Bloom absolutely cleaned up at last year’s Zalympix competition—snagging three first-place awards for best overall flower, best terpenes, and best-tasting flower. That’s like taking home the gold in the weed Olympics. And if you’ve smoked any Voyage Bloom strains, it’s easy to see why the brand is quickly becoming a favorite among cannabis connoisseurs.
An Unassuming Start for Award-Winning Bud
The first thing to know about Voyage Bloom? It’s not what you’d expect.
The low-key grow facility, tucked away off a dirt road north of Flint, doesn’t exactly scream “high-end cannabis operation.” It’s a small, unassuming space. But step inside, and you’re greeted with a spotless, high-tech setup that feels more like a science lab than a weed farm.
That’s where the real magic happens—some of the state’s most flavorful, terpene-rich cannabis is all grown under the watchful eye of Voyage Bloom Founder Brandon Coffield and his team.
Coffield, 30, is a longtime stoner and former AT&T store manager who launched the Voyage Bloom brand as a medical marijuana caregiver operation in 2021. For him, cannabis is personal—an alternative to the prescription stimulants he was put on as a teenager.
“I’ve just always really loved cannabis. I feel like it makes me a better version of myself,” Coffield told me during an exclusive tour. “And working in sales really just allowed me to save up the cash to start growing. So, one day, I just decided to quit and haven’t really looked back.”
In 2022, Voyage Bloom moved out of Coffield’s basement and into its low-key-yet-high-tech growing operation north of Flint—and got licensed to sell products on Michigan’s recreational market. July marked two years since the first bag of Voyage Bloom was sold in a dispensary.
“The vision has been consistent,” Coffield told me. “We want to offer a product that’s just as good as what people are buying for $60 an eighth—but more accessible for the everyday person. Everyone should be able to smoke good, clean cannabis at a reasonable price.”
Loud Flower Speaks for Itself
What sets Voyage Bloom apart isn’t just the awards; it’s the attention to detail.
Coffield and his team often spend weeks hunting down (and smoking) new genetics, sourcing the hottest clones, and treating every strain they select like a genuine piece of art. As a former medical marijuana caregiver, Coffield says he doesn’t know any other way to go about it.
“There’s a lot of love that goes into the product,” he said. “If you look closely, you can see it.”
That “love” includes state-of-the-art filtering and moisture control systems that ensure Coffield can monitor every stage of the cultivation process. Each harvest is trimmed by hand. And instead of using big machines, there’s a real team of humans who roll all Voyage Bloom joints.
Voyage Bloom’s packaging also features original artwork—with strain-specific characters that Coffield usually thinks up himself, often after smoking on the strain. He calls it a passion project.
The end results? Strains like Slurmz and Watermelon Zmartini that hit you with complex, out-of-this-world flavors and potent effects. It’s marijuana that tastes as good as it feels. And at only about $100 for a half-ounce, it’s still surprisingly affordable for being top-tier quality.
What’s Next for Voyage Bloom?
For now, Voyage Bloom is focused on expanding its reach across Michigan while keeping quality at the forefront. Coffield is already selling out fairly quickly with his current dispensary partners but still wants to grow more weed so that his harvests can be available in more stores.
Concentrates are also on the horizon, with plans to release those products sometime in 2025, along with a rotating line of new strains—including recent releases like Cherry Popperz.
Regardless of the future growth, Coffield says he’ll never compromise on his independence.
“We’ve always been self-funded. I don’t want any investors or anyone to tell me how to run this business, because that’s when you start cutting corners just to make a quick profit,” he said. “The reason we are where we are is because we’ve had autonomy to make our own decisions.”
Why You Should Care
If you’re a Michigan stoner looking for a brand that delivers on both quality and value, Voyage Bloom deserves a spot on your radar. Their weed is potent, flavorful, and crafted with care—everything you could want in a top-shelf smoke without the top-shelf price. Whether you’re hunting for a new go-to strain or just want to flex on your sesh circle with some award-winning bud, Voyage Bloom is the plug that you didn’t know you needed.
