MICHIGAN—Welcome to the whirlwind world of weed, where the action never stops.

This week, Michigan’s marijuana market is bustling with fresh regulations, new product launches, and notable industry shifts. And as usual, The MichiGanja Report has the full roundup of the most newsworthy headlines that have been stirring up the cannabis scene this week:

CANNABIS LEGEND: Stoner comedian and actor Tommy Chong will reportedly speak during the Hash Bash in Ann Arbor on Saturday—marking his first time back to the event in several years. The festivities typically begin at (high) noon at the University of Michigan Diag.

SUPER STRAIN: A popular Michigan-grown strain of weed called “Pure Michigan” is making headlines for its rich, earthy aroma and sweet, doughy smoke that hits smooth and heavy. Leafly even featured it in its latest seasonal list of the best new strains in the country.

LABORATORY LAWSUIT: State regulators are a major step closer to ending their four-year legal battle with cannabis testing lab Viridis Laboratories after an administrative law ruled that the state’s actions against Viridis—which included a massive product recall that nearly ground the state’s industry in 2021 to a halt—were legally justified, reports Crain’s Detroit Business.

HIGH DRIVING: A new AAA survey found that most Michiganders are comfortable smoking weed an hour or less before driving—with nearly 47% reporting they drive just as safe while under the influence and about 34% reporting that weed actually makes them better drivers.

PRICE PLUNGE: The price of recreational cannabis in Michigan dropped to $65 an ounce last month—down nearly 30% compared with $92 in February 2024, reports the Detroit Free Press. This trend is making it difficult for cannabis companies across the state to churn a profit.

PARTING WAYS: State regulators have reportedly revoked the business license of Flavor Galaxy, a marijuana processor in Hazel Park, following alleged regulatory violations. The company’s owners, who were accused of keeping inaccurate records and putting misleading labels on products, have also been barred from working in the state’s cannabis industry.

DETROIT DANK: Doghouse Farms is quickly earning a reputation for growing both tasty and potent weed at its 25,000-square-foot cultivation facility on the east side of Detroit—including scoring some rave reviews in Steve Neavling’s latest column at the Detroit Metro Times.

REPEAT OFFENDER: Detroit Police are reportedly investigating another robbery at Jazz Cannabis Club on Telegraph Road, which has now been robbed three times in the last three months. The latest group of alleged thieves made off with about $100,000 in products.

GOOD TIMES ROLLING: A newly approved local ordinance in Warren will reportedly allow for an unlimited number of recreational marijuana businesses to open up shop within the city.
