MICHIGAN—Union fights, weed giveaways, flashy ad campaigns, and another round of sketchy vape carts pulled from shelves. Yep, it’s been another busy week in Michigan cannabis.
Here’s what you might’ve missed:
STILL STRIKING: Workers at Exclusive in Ann Arbor are still on strike—now for a second week—while they continue to stand up against what they’re calling unfair labor practices. Unionized dispensaries are still rare in Michigan, so all eyes are on Ann Arbor to see how this plays out.
ROYAL DELIVERY: Paw Paw’s Royal Weed Cannabis is rolling out delivery to nearby towns—including Kalamazoo, Decatur, and Lawton. The first delivery (up to 15 miles) is free.
TAXED & BUSTED: Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is using tax laws to crack down on black market cannabis sales. A Traverse City man was reportedly charged with felony tax evasion after police seized 134 plants, 230 pounds of weed, $100,000 in cash—and six Rolexes. Nessel says the message is simple: If you’re selling weed, you better be paying taxes.
FLASHY MOVES: As reported in City Pulse, Michigan’s Flash Flippin’ is bringing high art to cannabis marketing—like turning Jars’ deli-style flower into a full NBA-playoff ad campaign. Their pitch is simple: In a crowded market, bold branding matters just as much as the bud.
BAD KARTZ: Another week, another vape recall. State regulators say Top Smoke Go Kartz Runtz cartridges from House Brands Distro were sold in 75 dispensaries and “should not be consumed.” The move follows two other major vape recalls last month tied to banned additives.
UP NORTH FIRE: A recent column in Herb makes a bold claim, crowning The Fire Station Cannabis Co. as “the best” dispensary in Menominee—and maybe the whole Upper Peninsula. And right now, the shop is upping the hype with a new giveaway: free weed for a year.
