Your weekly guide to taking action in Michigan (April 10-16)

A weekly roundup of Michigan protests, political events, advocacy opportunities, and ways to take action statewide–Friday, April 10 through Thursday, April 16.

This week, Michiganders are taking a stand against data centers, with six rallies planned across the state. Black Maternal Health Week (April 11–17) is also underway, featuring a ceremony and Capitol Day hosted by Mothering Justice. Meanwhile, opportunities to engage in local elections and policy advocacy are continuing across Michigan. 

Here’s a roundup of upcoming events and actions:

Friday (April 10)

Red Wine & Blue: Brighton’s Vision for Funded Schools, (Brighton, 10 a.m.)
Connect with other advocates and learn about local issues, the May 5th election, and ways you can get involved to help pass the Brighton School Bond.

Dexter Strong, Dexter Cares: “Turn ‘I’ into ‘We’” Weekly Protest, (Dexter, 4:30 p.m.)
A protest to support democracy.

New People Foundation: No AI Data Centers in Michigan Statewide Rally, (Houghton, 6 p.m.)
Rallies urging elected officials to act upon the overwhelming bipartisan public opposition to data center expansion. Additional rallies against data centers will be taking place across Michigan on Saturday, April 11.

Saturday (April 11)

Red Wine & Blue: Saginaw Community Coffee Hour, (Saginaw, 10 a.m.)
Connect with other advocates and hear from community groups, including the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Michigan, the Arab American Heritage Council, the Ezekiel Project, and Red, Wine & Blue, to learn about local issues, the May 5th special election, and ways you can get involved. 

Holland Zeeland Indivisible: Stand for Democracy, (Holland, 12 p.m.)
A rally for democracy.

Macomb Defenders Rising: Stop the ICE Detention Center in Romulus, (Romulus, 3 p.m.)
Join the effort to stop the ICE detention facility in Romulus.

Mothering Justice: Opening Libation Ceremony, (Detroit, 6 p.m.)
A libation ceremony to kick off Black Maternal Health Week. The gathering will include reflection, ritual, connection, and opportunities to get involved in advancing maternal health justice.

Sunday (April 12)

Equality Michigan: Sunday Fundays, (Traverse City, 1 p.m.)
A space to connect, play games, share ideas, and celebrate queer joy together.

Equality Michigan: Reclaiming MI Pride, (Grand Rapids, 5:30 p.m.)
Join community members, volunteers, and community leaders to discuss building lasting power around LGBTQ+ equality, community support, and collective action in Michigan. Registered guests will receive light appetizers and drink tickets.

Michigan United Action: Money Out of Politics Orientation, (Virtual, 6:30)
Learn about the ballot initiative to get money out of politics and how you can get involved.

Monday (April 13)

Red Wine & Blue: Community Chat, (Southgate, 7 p.m.)
Connect with other advocates and learn about local issues and ways you can get involved. 

Tuesday (April 14)

Red Wine & Blue: Cut, Paste, Advocate: Vision Boards for Better Schools, (Auburn Hills, 6 p.m.)
A morning of crafting and conversations on Auburn Hill’s May 5th elections, including how to talk to voters about making a plan to vote for Avondale Schools. 

Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan: Dance & Care No Matter What, (Grand Rapids, 6 p.m.)
Join the dance class led by local Afro Latino dance artists and community organizers, with opportunities to support grassroots mutual aid organizations working to protect reproductive justice.

Wednesday (April 15)

Mothering Justice: Mamas Rising for Maternal Health: Capitol Action Day, (Lansing, 11 a.m.)
Families and community members will meet with legislators to talk about improving postpartum care and maternal health policies in Michigan. Training and support will be provided.

Leelanau Indivisible: Cedar First Amendment Stand-Up Protest, (Cedar, 12 p.m.) 
A protest for democracy.

Kent County Democratic Party: Voter Protection Training-Voting in 2026, (Grand Rapids, 7 p.m.)
The first session in the Kent Dems 3-part Voter Protection Training, presented by Thomas Luckett, Michigan Dems Voter Protection Director. This session will focus on voting from home. 

Thursday (April 16)

Red Wine & Blue: Gather For Good Trouble, (Farmington Hills, 10 a.m.)
Connect with other advocates and learn about local issues, upcoming elections, and ways you can get involved. 

Indivisible: Clarkston PerSisters Weekly Rally for Democracy, (Independence Township, 4 p.m.)
A rally to defend democracy and our constitution, protect healthcare, Social Security, public education, working families, veterans, LGBTQ+ rights, and immigrants.

Equality Michigan: Canvass for Equality, (Traverse City, 6 p.m.)
Receive training, then knock doors to talk to voters about equality to turn pride into voter turnout.

Mark your calendars for these upcoming events:

Moms Demand Action: Statewide-Advocacy Day, (Lansing, April 28, 8 a.m.)
Join Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action to meet in person with our lawmakers in Lansing to support gun violence prevention. Register in advance.

Michigan United, Reproductive Freedom for All Michigan, and Black Voters Matter: Capitol Day, (Lansing, April 29, 9 a.m.)
A coordinated day of advocacy bringing people from across Michigan to engage directly with lawmakers. Participants can choose which issues to focus on, including voting rights, criminal justice, healthcare, money out of politics, data center and AI regulation, immigrant rights, and reproductive rights. Free buses will be available from Detroit, Grand Rapids, Flint, and Saginaw. Register in advance.

May Day: On May 1, 2026, workers, students, and families will rally, march, and take action across the country and here in Michigan to “demand a nation that puts workers over billionaires, with many refusing business as usual through No School. Equality Michigan: Statewide LGBTQ+ Capitol Day, (Lansing, May 13, 8 a.m.)
Join Equality Michigan Action Network, Equality Michigan, and the LGBTQ+ Commission of Michigan for their 4th annual Statewide LGBTQ+ Capitol Day in Lansing to speak with lawmakers about the issues impacting the LGBTQ+ community. Register in advance.
