MICHIGAN—Cannabis is a big deal in Michigan—and there’s never a shortage of newsworthy headlines from the industry as the state inches closer to becoming the nation’s weed capital.

Here are 8 things you need to know this week:

VOTER VIEWS: A new voter guide from Michigan Public details the presidential candidates’ stances on a variety of issues—including their views and opinions on marijuana. That includes Kamala Harris’ position that no one should ever be sent to jail for smoking weed.

BLAZE BLOOMS: A new women-owned dispensary in Saginaw, Bloom and Blaze, reportedly aims to provide a positive experience to patrons, according to paywalled reports from MLive.

SENTENCE SPLIT: Michigan attorneys are reportedly expressing concern over the disproportionate prison sentences associated with illegally selling weed compared to the minor fines that are often levied against those who operate illegal weed cultivation operations.

RULING RIPPLES: A recent ruling from the Michigan Court of Appeals could reportedly enable prosecutors to levy steeper charges against those who operate illegal grow operations.

GREEN GIANT: A large outdoor grow operation in Michigan, Grasshopper Farms, is making headlines—if only for the sheer size of its 40-acre operation that houses about 6,000 plants.

CALIFORNIA SHOCK: Entrepreneurs in California, where weed has been legal since 2018, are reportedly stunned over weed sales that have been tracked in Michigan over the last year.

PRICE PLUNGE: Michigan’s marijuana market has reportedly been able to rival other states, in part, because the retail price for an ounce of flower in Michigan has plunged more than 80% since adult-use sales started. The average price for an ounce of weed is now only about $80.

OHIO OUTPACED: Recreational weed sales in Ohio are reportedly gaining steam, with sales topping $76 million last month. Michigan, however, is still chugging ahead even faster.
