Along with early voting, this free event will celebrate local food, culture, and the upcoming Pistons season.
Election Day is still a couple of weeks away, but Detroiters will have the chance this weekend to vote early—and party with the Detroit Pistons in the process.
“Pistonsland: What Up D.O.E.” is a collaborative effort between the Detroit Pistons and the City of Detroit taking place Saturday, Oct. 19, from noon to 7 p.m. in downtown Detroit.
The free outdoor festival is a chance for Detroiters to celebrate their team, local food, culture, music, and the tip-off of early voting in Detroit.
Pistonsland will feature performances by headliner and Grammy Award-winning rapper Lil Baby, as well as sets by Detroit artists Baby Face Ray, Peezy, Sada Baby, and Skilla Baby.
Perhaps best of all, though, Pistonsland will allow attendees to cast their vote for the upcoming election during the event.
Michigan law requires communities to offer early in-person voting—similar to voting at the polls on Election Day—for a minimum of nine consecutive days, ending on the Sunday before an election.
While most jurisdictions start offering early voting on Oct. 26, Detroit will begin early voting this Saturday, Oct. 19.
“Pistonsland: What Up D.O.E. will give Detroiters the opportunity to make their voice heard through early voting while celebrating the best of Detroit’s culture, music and community,” said Chris Economeas, Sr. Director of Community & Social Responsibility for the Detroit Pistons. “As an organization at the forefront of civic engagement, we look forward to offering this event as an opportunity for Detroiters to get out and vote while enjoying a free day of fun and excitement in Detroit.”
Pistonsland will also feature food trucks, carnival rides, hip-hop roller rinks, minigolf, and more.
