From coast to coast in Michigan, here are 13 gluten-free restaurants loved by locals. Mac and cheese or brownie cake, anyone?
Eating out when you’re gluten-free can feel like a challenge, but we discovered that Michigan has truly mastered the art of the gluten-free (GF) restaurant. We found so many great options for gluten-free restaurants in Michigan, from an eatery founded and run by a head chef with Celiac disease to those that offer fully GF menus, fryers, and even catering. (Side note: Many of the most popular GF restaurants in Michigan we found were in Grand Rapids, so shout out to the west side for their inclusive menu offerings!)
Whether you’re craving something ooey and gooey, like a fresh-from-the-wood-fired-oven pizza or deep-fried mozzarella sticks, or in the mood for something more sweet, we found 13 local-recommended gluten-free restaurants in Michigan worth a visit—and a return meal!
1. Papa Chops Eatery
- Address: 2222 28th St SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49508
- Fave GF Dish: Impossible Burger with Mozzarella Sticks & Onion Rings
Not only is Papa Chops Eatery gluten-free, but it’s a restaurant built solely as a safe place for individuals who have Celiac disease. Why is that, you ask? Because the founder and chef, Aaron Mueller, was diagnosed with Celiac disease at the age of 40. Anyone who has been gluten-free or has Celiac disease will fully understand the struggle of certain restaurants or dishes promoting themselves as “gluten-free” only to find limited dishes, hidden ingredients, or misunderstandings about the disease. So a restaurant that is completely gluten-free with a chef dedicated to making a safe place for eating is a downright beautiful relief.
Mueller declared he was once a man whose favorite food was burgers, and his menu reflects “comfort foods” like wraps, burgers, pizzas, mac and cheese, and delicious pizza. Yum!
“As an ‘amateur gluten-free chef’ myself, I was blown away by the food here,” wrote a customer on Google Reviews. “I was greeted at the front counter by the Chef, Thaddeus, and was absolutely impressed with his genuine care for the needs of a person with Celiac disease. My wife and I had the deep fried pot roast balls, bluegill sandwich, chicken sandwich, and poutine, and were completely satisfied!!!! I wish I could give this place 6 stars.”

2. Breadless
- Address: 2760 Larned St, Detroit, MI 48207
- Fave GF Dish: Mango Jerk Chicken Breadless Wrap or Craft your own bowl with house sauces
Everyone loves a wrap for an easy meal to grab-and-go, but if you’re gluten-free, it can be challenging to find a quality gluten-free wrap that holds up, is tasty, and, depending on your other nutritional goals, isn’t packed with other filler ingredients.
This restaurant’s solution is simple: make wraps, and make them of lettuce. Breadless lives up to its name and offers filling, filled-to-the-brim lettuce wraps full of fresh ingredients and tasty cuts for the meat eaters. The entire menu is gluten-free, and along with wraps, they also offer delicious bowls chock full of rice or cauliflower rice. You don’t need to be gluten-free to appreciate the beauty that is a southwest rice chicken bowl with avocado, roasted onions and peppers, and garlic crema.
3. Rise Authentic Baking Co.
- Address: 1220 Fulton St W, Grand Rapids, MI 49504
- Fave GF Dish: A Donut and a Latte
One of the most challenging aspects of being gluten-free is feeling like you’re missing out on delicious baked goods. But no one will feel left out at this Grand Rapids, Mich., bakery where even the gluten-tolerant flock for mouthwatering pastries and delectable treats.
The bakery is fully gluten-free, vegan, soy-free, and eschews all artificial flavors and colors, so customers say they feel good about what they’re eating. A full menu features favorites like donuts, muffins, scones, bagels, and cakes, and the company offers a seasonally rotating food menu and freebies for locals, including a donut punch card. Owners Becca & Nick Van Liere welcome all to come visit and have partnered with a local coffee shop to offer in-store customers tea, coffee, and espresso to accompany their sweet treats.
And if you’re a gluten-free bride or groom-to-be, Rise also offers gorgeous gluten-free wedding cakes. “Not a single slice was left, so it’s safe to say our guests also found it to be delicious!” gushed one satisfied wedding customer.

4. Rosita’s Treats
- Address: 48770 Van Dyke Ave, Shelby Township, MI 48317
- Fave GF Dish: Bandeja Paisa platter
Columbian cooking meets gluten-free food at Rosita’s Treats in Shelby Township with traditional favorites like the Bandeja Paisa platter featuring crispy pork belly, sweet plantains, savory chorizo, a fried egg, creamy avocado, and a side of arepa. GF-free guests don’t have to worry about choosing safe foods from the menu, as the entire restaurant is gluten-free, right down to the soups and flavorful cheesecakes for dessert.
The restaurant also offers catering if you’re looking to feed a crowd. “We love going to Rosita’s and not having to worry about a gluten issue (me),” said one customer. “The food and service are always amazing. The staff is very sweet. We tend to also bring a lot of food home because everything reheats well, too!”
5. Fika
- Address: 1359 Plainfield AVE NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505
- Fave GF Dish: Breakfast Sando with egg, cheddar, and house-made chickpea sausage or tempeh bacon
“Fika”(pronounced “fee-kah”) is a Swedish practice that translates into taking time to take a break and sit with loved ones and enjoy a meal, treat, and coffee. So call me Swedish, because you just deserved all of my favorite things. Fika serves up baked goods from Rise Authentic Baking Co for quality pastries and breads, gluten-free, plant-based brunch treats, and delicious deli salads that can be enjoyed in-house or taken on the go.
And in the spirit of fostering community, Fika offers community and late-night events with unique, gluten-free bar food and mocktails. The gluten-free restaurant is a relatively new one, having just opened in May 2025, but they’ve clearly already figured out the secret to success.
6. Amore Trattoria Italiana
- Address: 5080 Alpine Ave NW, Comstock Park, MI 49321
- Fave GF Dish: Gnocchi with pesto or vodka cream
You’ll become part of the family at Amore Trattoria Italiana, a restaurant voted the Best Service, Best Fine Dining, and Best Italian in Grand Rapids. Oh, and let’s not forget also voted Best Chef for award-winning chef Jenna Arcidiacono, who brings a taste of the old world to Grand Rapids’ Alpine Avenue.
The restaurant itself is not gluten-free, but they do have a gluten-free menu available with “chef-made” meals that include gnocchi, antipasto with house-made Italian sausage, and ravioli with your choice of pesto, cream, or vodka sauce. While the establishment sources some items from Italy (like their wine!), many other food items are sourced locally, making it a popular spot in the community.
7. Uncle Cheetah’s Soup Shop
- Address: 1133 Wealthy St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506
- Fave GF Dish: Gluten-free calzones
While Uncle Cheetah’s in Grand Rapids (which, by the way, seems to be a popular gluten-free destination here in the mitten!) was closed for the summer, it’s opening up its doors again in September 2025 to welcome hungry guests.
Uncle Cheetah’s soup shop serves up, as you may have guessed, a dozen scratch-made soups prepared daily with nine unique grilled cheese sandwiches, all available on gluten-free bread. The atmosphere of the soup shop is also aptly one you will want to curl up and get cozy in, with a funky vibe and a welcoming environment. Note: While many of their soups are gluten-free, not all are, so please check the menu before ordering. I’ve got my eye on that gluten-free chicken pot pie soup …
8. True Pizza Co
- Address: 1937 W Maple Rd, Troy, MI 48084
- Fave GF Dish: Pizza fries
Described as gourmet and gluten-free, I will offer this warning to you before you click through to the True Pizza Co. located in Troy, Mich.: Do not, I repeat, do not, open their website on an empty stomach. I happen to have missed lunch while researching for this gluten-free restaurant guide, and my mouth immediately started watering simply perusing the selection of cheesy pizzas they offer.
The entire restaurant is gluten-free and nut-free, and in addition to thin-crust pizza, the restaurant also serves up pasta, cakes, grilled wraps, and more. True Pizza Co. aims to be as friendly as possible and does not use any of the following allergens: Sesame, Fish, Wheat, Tree Nuts, or Peanuts. Dine in, enjoy the outdoor seating area, or order takeout for gluten-free pizza to enjoy at home.
9. The Old Goat
- Address: 2434 Eastern Ave SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49507
- Fave GF Dish: The Rhett Butler Sandwich
The Old Goat—again, located in Grand Rapids, Mich.—is not fully gluten-free, but does have a gluten-free menu available. The state-favorite gastropub features an industrial-chic environment, complete with hand-painted details and oil-drum lighting, and tons of entertainment, like live music in the evenings, “dinner and a show” events, and a popular Sunday brunch. Because who doesn’t love brunch?
Gluten-free choices even extend to the kids’ menu, with GF picks like the “moo banger,” aka a cheeseburger, and the “Just Moo,” the ever-popular grilled cheese. Most of their burgers on the adult side are gluten-free, and gluten-free bread is always available. The restaurant does note that it’s fryers do make contact with gluten, so any items cooked or served from the Pizza Kitchen could come into contact with gluten.
10. The Mitten Brewing Company
- Address: 527 Leonard St NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504
- Fave GF Dish: 6 Flight Pizza Samples
This vintage baseball-themed microbrewery in Grand Rapids, Mich., offers a swap to a gluten-free crust in all of its mouth-watering pizza options. Hog Heaven pizza, anyone? Or perhaps the chili-bean sauce “Westerdog” pizza is more your style?
They also offer a unique option of a “flight” of gluten-free pizza samples, allowing you to try a little taste of everything. And for those who can tolerate some level of gluten, the brewery also can pour you up a gluten-reduced beer from their menu that you can enjoy in-house or on the patio.
11. City Built Brewing Co.
- Address: 820 Monroe Ave NW STE 155, Grand Rapids, MI 49503
- Fave GF Dish: Chicken tinga taco
Again, while not a fully gluten-free establishment, City Built Brewing Co. does have gluten-free options and even has a dedicated gluten-free fryer to avoid cross-contamination. Many gluten-free individuals struggle with cross-contamination from fryer oil, so this is a big win for the GF community.
Thanks to a dedicated GF fryer, patrons can enjoy delicious fried food options like GF taco shells, tortilla chips, french fries, yca fries, and smashed green plantains (tostones). Their shrimp tacos alone are worth a visit!
12. Gluten-Free Specialities
- Address: 2656 South Rochester Road, Rochester Hills, MI, United States, Michigan
- Fave GF Dish: Chicken noodle soup and mozzarella sticks
Sending in classroom treats or buying desserts for a special occasion when you’re gluten-free can feel like a challenge, but this dedicated gluten-free bakery in Rochester, Mich., is a local go-to favorite for individuals with Celiac disease because they’re committed to offering GF choices. The bakery makes GF cakes, desserts, meals, and even breads, so there is everything from everyday foods to those marking special occasions.
Visit the store to grab some gluten-free meals to feed the fam, like chicken noodle soup, hot chicken tenders, mac and cheese, a pan of meat lasagna, or potato and broccoli soup. Or, just pick up some treats, like their famous brownie cookie cake, which is popular among birthday celebrants who prefer brownies over cake. (Raises hand!)
13. Two Beards Deli
- Address: 38 Commerce Ave SW, Grand Rapids, MI 49503
- Fave GF Dish: The George Clooney
If a sandwich is what you’re craving, look no further than Two Beards Deli, which serves up sandwiches galore with 90+ gluten-free combinations. The online menu does not specify which particular sandwiches are gluten-free, so we recommend checking with the restaurant before visiting, but there are plenty of sandwich options to choose from, all with unique or familiar names.
For instance, The Honest Abe is a humble turkey sandwich while The Bob Ross is a veggie sub packed full of portobello mushrooms, caramelized onions, and smoked gouda. In other words, there’s a little something for everyone at this deli!
