5 quick hits of cannabis news from across Michigan

MICHIGAN—Weed recalls, union beef, and a nine-pound stash gone up in smoke. Yep, it’s been another week in Michigan marijuana. Here are five stories worth sparking up:

OIL SLICK: A statewide recall has been issued on about 6,000 “Pineapple Jealousy” flavored Kushy Punch vape carts after state regulators found they contained medium chain triglyceride (MCT) oil—a potentially unsafe diluting agent that’s been banned from vapes since last year.

TRAFFIC STOPPED: A 37-year-old man from Flint is facing criminal charges after Illinois state troopers said they found more than nine pounds of weed in his rental car during a traffic stop on I-55. Prosecutors say the haul—worth an estimated $40,000—was headed toward St. Louis.

DETROIT DELIGHTS: The Detroit Metro Times dropped a fresh list of the best dispensaries in the Motor City. And it begins by highlighting one of my all-time favorite stores: The Refinery.

SKYMINT SURVIVES: One of Michigan’s biggest cannabis brands has reportedly shut down its grow operations, cut hundreds of jobs, and closed more than a dozen dispensaries in recent years. But under new Canadian ownership, Skymint swears it’s finally back in the green.

STRIKE OUT: Dozens of workers at Exclusive in Ann Arbor walked off the job last week, joining the picket line outside the Varsity Drive dispensary in an ongoing fight to unionize. The UFCW Local 876 has reportedly filed a complaint accusing the cannabis company of union-busting.
