Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is getting the love it deserves as America’s best destination for fall colors, according to the results of the USAT 10BEST Readers’ Choice Awards for fall.
The No. 1 ranking highlights the region’s breathtaking transformation each autumn, as over eight million acres of forests burst into vibrant hues of red, gold and orange.
From the cliffs of Pictured Rocks to the trails at Tahquamenon Falls, there’s never a shortage of spots to soak in the autumn beauty.

Week of Oct. 6: Peak fall colors Up North, UP
By this week, peak fall color has arrived in northern Michigan, with most areas at their most vibrant. Whether you’re cruising scenic byways or snapping photos of breathtaking vistas, the Upper Peninsula will feel extra magical.

Week of Oct. 13: Past peak colors in UP
While metro Detroit and the Thumb are showing off their peak fall colors now, most of northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula have moved past peak. However, a few pockets in the UP still shine in near-perfect autumn color.
