It’s finally starting to feel like fall! The air’s crisp, the sweaters are out, and the sudden dip in temperature makes a warm cider sound amazing.
This week’s lineup has plenty of ways to embrace the season, including a festival where you can witness thousands of migrating cranes, beer fests, a pet expo, and more.
As always, I’d love to hear your suggestions! If you know of an upcoming event you’d like me to highlight, please send me a note here (suggestions should be submitted at least one week before the event).

Whitmer signs 2026 budget (MI Advance): Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has signed Michigan’s $82 billion budget for Fiscal Year 2026, calling it a bipartisan plan that invests in roads, safety, and schools. The deal boosts funding for transportation and education while cutting unfilled government jobs and trimming the state’s health department budget by $7.6 billion. Nearly $2 billion is slated for road improvements over the next four years, funded in part by a new tax on cannabis products. Per-pupil school funding will increase to $10,050, with free meals and support for at-risk students maintained.
East Lansing police chief faces call to resign after controversial comments (WKAR): East Lansing’s police chief is facing calls to resign after telling a local TV station the city had a “disproportionate number of minorities” who “come into the community and commit crimes.” Chief Jen Brown apologized, but city officials remain divided over her future. The City Council plans to review police policies ahead of a vote on Oct. 21 regarding oversight changes.
