A weekly roundup of Michigan political events, protests, advocacy opportunities, and ways to take action statewide–Friday, March 6 through Thursday, March 12. 

Want to get politically engaged this week? You can protest a data center in Gibraltar, rally against ICE offices and involvement in Michigan, receive training on protesting or encountering immigration enforcement, and more. 

Here’s our weekly roundup of upcoming events and actions:

Friday (March 6)

Traverse City Indivisible: Senior Center, Good Trouble, (Traverse City, 12-1 p.m.)
A rally to call on Congress to protect democracy and stop ICE.

Dexter Strong, Dexter Cares: “Turn ‘I’ into ‘We’” Weekly Protest, (Dexter, 4:30-5:30 p.m.)
A protest to support democracy.

Good Trouble Indivisible: ICE OUT For Good & Signs Of Fascism March, (Douglas, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.)

West Mi Indivisible: Show Up! Stand Up! Speak Out!, (Grandville, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.) 
A rally for democracy.

Indivisible Newaygo County: Clock Tower Visibility Brigade, (Newaygo County, 12-1 p.m.)
A rally for democracy. 

Traverse City Indivisible: Weekly Good Trouble Assembly Rally, (Traverse City, 12-1 p.m.)
A rally to call on Congress to protect democracy and stop ICE.

Michigan United Action: The Immigrant Struggle: From LA to Detroit, (Detroit, 12-3 p.m.)
An afternoon of discussion and strategy on defending the rights of working-class and immigrant communities, with a focus on strengthening immigration defense efforts in Detroit.

Cass County Democratic Party: Stand Up for Science Rally, (Niles, 1-2 p.m.) 
A rally for science, in support of the Stand Up for Science rally being held in Washington, D.C.

Stand Up For Science Michigan: Stand Up For Science National Day of Action, (Lansing, 1-3 p.m.)
A rally for science, health, and democracy featuring remarks from local scientists and Rep. Haley Stevens.

Sunday (March 8)

GR Women’s Day, (Grand Rapids, 11 a.m.)
A rally in honor of International Women’s Day.

Holland Zeeland Indivisible: Stand for Democracy, (Holland, 12-1 p.m.)
A rally for democracy.

Stand Up. Fight Back. Southeast Michigan: Stand Up. Fight Back. Protest Fascism!, (Rochester Hills, 2-4 p.m.)
A rally against fascism 

Indivisible Downriver United 734: Whistle Making Kit Party, (Trenton, 2-4 p.m.)
A community event to make warning whistle kits to distribute throughout the community

Indivisible: ICE OUT-Community Weekly Vigil, (Saugatuck, 5:30-6:30 p.m.)
A community-led ICE Out vigil for reflection and collective care.

Michigan United Action: Money Out of Politics Orientation, (Virtual, 6:30-8 p.m.)

A rally for democracy.

Tuesday (March 10)

Berrien County Democratic Party: Weekly Peaceful Protests, (St. Joseph, 12-12:30 p.m.)
A weekly peaceful protest to stand together, be visible, and show solidarity.

Traverse Indivisible: Social Security, Good Trouble, (Traverse City, 12-1 p.m.) 
A rally to call on Congress to protect democracy and stop ICE.

Indivisible: Visibility Brigade in Marquette, MI & Ishpeming, (Marquette, 4-5:30 p.m.)
A rally for democracy. 

Ypsilanti Indivisible: ICE OUT!, (Ypsilanti, 4:30- 5:30 p.m)
A protest against ICE.

Indivisible: Postcard Writing, (Muskegon, 5-6:30 p.m.)
Join community members and write postcards advocating for legislators to stand up to the Trump Administration. 

Equality Michigan: Phone Bank for Equality, (Traverse City, 5:30-7 p.m.)
Receive training before contacting voters in Michigan to identify and mobilize voters in support of equality and inclusion.

Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan: Dance & Care No Matter What, (Grand Rapids, 6-7:30 p.m.)
Join the dance class led by local Afro Latino dance artists and community organizers, with opportunities to support grassroots mutual aid organizations working to protect reproductive justice.

Michigan League of Conservation Voters: March Volunteer Huddle in Kalamazoo, (Kalamazoo, 6-8 p.m.) 
Learn more about the work Michigan LCV is doing and ways you can get involved. 

Michigan League of Conservation Voters: People Over Profit Virtual Phone Bank, (Virtual 6-8 p.m.)
Receive training before contacting voters in Michigan in support of Michigan State Representative Reggie Miller prioritizing people over profits.

Wednesday (March 11)

Leelanau Indivisible: Cedar First Amendment Stand-Up Protest, (Cedar, 12-1 p.m.) 
A protest for democracy.

Invisible Downriver United 734: No Data Centers Protest, (Gibraltar, 4-6 p.m.)
A protest in response to the private company, Raeden, submitting plans to build a data center at the former McLouth Steel site, which could move forward under existing zoning.

Oak Park Concerned Citizens: No ICE Offices in Southfield, (Southfield, 4:30-6 p.m.)
A protest in response to the General Services Administration, which manages federal property, signing a lease agreement with REDICO to house an ICE field office in Southfield at 1 Towne Center.

Indivisible: Pizza, Postcards & People Power, (Douglas, 5:30-7:30 p.m.)
Join community members and write postcards advocating for key issues in the community. 

Grand Rapids Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression: Community Art Build, (Grand Rapids, 5:30 p.m.)
A community event to paint banners demanding justice for Da’Quain Johnson and Samuel Sterling.

Michigan United Action: Money Out of Politics Orientation, (Virtual, 6:30-8 p.m.)
Learn about the ballot initiative to get money out of politics and how you can get involved.

Indivisible: MI-01 Meet the Candidates Forum, (Hancock, 7-9 p.m.)
A non-partisan forum to meet the candidates for Michigan’s 1st Congressional seat.

ACLU Michigan & Michigan Immigrant Rights Center: Know Your Rights Townhall, (Virtual, 7-8 p.m.)
Know Your Rights Townhall to learn what you need to know when protesting or encountering immigration enforcement.

Thursday (March 12)

Indivisible: Clarkston PerSisters Weekly Rally for Democracy, (Independence Township, 3:30-5 p.m.)
A rally to defend democracy and our Constitution, protect healthcare, Social Security, public education, working families, veterans, LGBTQ+ rights, and immigrants.

Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan: Meet Your New Mid Michigan Organizer and Educator, (Virtual, 6-7 p.m.)
A virtual volunteer night with Ruby, the new Mid-Michigan Organizer and Educator with Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan. Meet fellow advocates and hear updates on reproductive health policy and Michigan.
