MDOT is pausing 56% of its road and bridge projects this Labor Day weekend to help with travel. But heads up if you’re traveling between the peninsulas—The Mackinac Bridge will be closed to drivers Monday morning for the annual Labor Day Walk.
MICHIGAN—Michigan’s Department of Transportation says it is suspending work and easing most traffic restrictions in the state this Labor Day Weekend to accommodate travelers.
Beginning 3 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Tuesday, the department is lifting lane restrictions on 93 of its 166 current road and bridge projects. Although work is being suspended in many areas, be aware that there will still be some shifted lane configurations and shoulder closures along your drive.
If you’re heading Up North, be aware that the Mackinac Bridge will be closed to public traffic on Labor Day from 6:30 a.m. to noon during the Annual Bridge Walk.
Lastly, drivers should remember that Michigan enacted its hands-free driving law at the end of June. Need to use your phone while behind the wheel? Make sure to do it without manually handling your device.
