SOUTHERN SALES: With Ohioians recently voting to legalize recreational weed and retail sales expected to begin in the state as early as this summer, Michigan’s pot shops—especially those located along the southeastern border—are reportedly expected to see a decline in sales.
BLAZED BIRDIES: A man from Michigan reportedly took 500 mg of cannabis-infused edibles, tried to play 18 rounds of golf, and then recorded the adventure for a one-hour YouTube video.
AWAITING UNCLE SAM: Michigan dispensaries are reportedly eager to access commercial banking and standard business tax deductions, which could be made possible amid ongoing federal plans to downgrade cannabis from a Schedule I to a Schedule III controlled substance.
DIGGING INTO DATA: A recent analysis from Crain’s Detroit Business found that Michigan’s rock-bottom marijuana prices have played a significant role in helping Michigan outpace California in the number of individual cannabis products sold in each state every month.
IF YOU BUILD IT: The city of Mt. Pleasant is reportedly turning into a new mecca for pot shops, with 11 dispensaries having opened in the city in 2023—and more still in the works for 2024.
STUPID GAMES: Charges are reportedly pending against three men accused of breaking into a TruLeaf dispensary in Van Buren County to steal weed. A fourth suspect is still on the loose.
BUSINESS BOOM: The number of tribally owned dispensaries has reportedly increased 25% over the last year, with 57 tribally owned dispensaries in nine states—including in Michigan.
CANNABIS 101: Baker College and House of Dank are reportedly teaming up to offer new cannabis-related internships in the Detroit area—all with the goal of connecting more students with new job opportunities and creating a local talent pipeline for the state’s cannabis industry.
