This year, the results for the Best Restaurant in Grand Rapids readers’ poll come back with razor-thin margins. Therefore, we know Grand Rapids diners are serious about our region’s food. In this year’s poll, five restaurants rose to the top of the pack. After hundreds of votes rolled in, the first and second-place restaurants were separated by just one vote, and third place was only one vote behind second. That’s how close this competition was.

5. Linear
Linear may not yet have the renown of some larger names, but those who voted for it understand the quality it offers. Situated inside a sleek modern space with warm wood tables and a relaxed, home-like greige décor and farmhouse touches, not to mention a fantastic view of the river, Linear feels special and refined without being stuffy.
The cuisine is contemporary American with thoughtful international notes, and the wine list reflects a thoughtful approach to pairing. Diners who love American comfort food can enjoy a refined version of a country meatloaf, while more exploratory diners can enjoy a south-of-the-border-inspired lime and garlic shrimp. There is a ton of variety in their small plate selections, from Asian fare to seafood and simple, delicious fries with dip. Not to mention three simple, satisfying dessert options, including bread pudding and crème brulee.
Perhaps Linear didn’t win the title this time, but its presence in the top five proves its power. The service is polished and articulate, yet warm enough to make you feel welcome, and better yet, “known.”

4. Gin Gin’s
Gin Gin’s is a stylish, upscale restaurant located in Grand Rapids that just opened about a year and a half ago. It’s the latest project from brothers David and Paul Reinert, the seasoned team behind other beloved local spots like O’Toole’s Public House and Butcher’s Union. With Gin Gin’s, they’ve created a space that blends high-end dining with a cozy, intimate atmosphere, named in honor of their Aunt Gin, who also inspired the dessert menu.
The menu at Gin Gin’s leans into American classics with a refined twist. Guests can expect standout dishes like potato gnocchi with king trumpet mushrooms and truffle paste, a rich 45-day dry-aged New York strip, and a range of seafood entrees including broiled swordfish, Norwegian trout, and black cod. Pasta lovers are treated to house-made options like cavatelli, spaghetti, and ricotta ravioli. The appetizer list includes steak tartare, salmon crudo, oysters, shrimp scampi, and baked crab cakes, and the sides are just as thoughtfully prepared. The bar program is a big draw, offering approachable, classic cocktails and creative mocktails. 3. Uccello’s
If you’ve spent any time dining out in Grand Rapids, chances are you or someone you love has been to Uccello’s. This beloved local chain has been a fixture in West Michigan since 1996, when owner Faro Uccello expanded beyond his original pizzeria into something bigger and more versatile. Today, Uccello’s Ristorante is known for combining a welcoming sports bar atmosphere with a menu full of Italian-American comfort food favorites.

2. Bistro Bella Vita
Bistro Bella Vita barely took second place. It was just one vote shy of first. For nearly 30 years, it’s quietly stood its ground, redefining fine casual dining in Grand Rapids through thoughtful cooking, elegance, and warm, consistent hospitality that keeps guests coming back.
Housed in a building that began its life as a rubber factory in the 1910s, the restaurant was thoughtfully reimagined in March 1997 by the Woodrick family, best known from D&W. From the start, the goal was to bring a cosmopolitan “farm‑to‑table” experience to a city just beginning to revitalize. That vision has guided it for nearly three decades.
Inside the bistro, soft lighting highlights wood and chrome details. The thoughtfully set tables give a sense of privacy and spacious comfort. There are romantic nook-like booths, and an inviting bar that’s said to be West Michigan’s largest martini bar. There’s even an urban patio that adds a relaxed, bright air to the experience.
Behind the scenes, Bistro Bella Vita is part of the Essence Restaurant Group. The ownership has remained consistent since its founding, and it’s this stability that the current owner, James Berg, credits for the restaurant’s lasting place in the city’s landscape.
The menu is a celebration of made-from-scratch, modern European cuisine. Classic dishes like beef bourguignon, rigatoni Bolognese, Parisian gnocchi, and poulet de Provence share the spotlight with rotisserie-roasted meats, brick‑oven pizzas, and sustainably sourced fish. Amore Trattoria Italiana is an intimate, classic Italian dining room. The exterior may be modest, but inside you’ll find a cozy bar and a softly lit dining area. High-backed booths offer pockets of privacy while the décor invites you to settle in and stay a while.
At the heart of Amore is chef-owner Jenna Arcidiacono, alongside her husband Maurizio. Jenna’s kitchen journey led her from San Francisco’s North Beach to living in Northern Italy, where she learned the art of Italian cooking firsthand from her mother-in-law. Drawing on those experiences, she opened Amore in July of 2010, with a vision of crafting authentic Italian comfort food.
The menu reflects that careful blending of old-world tradition and modern sparkle. You can enjoy dishes like wild-boar and porcini mushroom pappardelle, braised rabbit in Marsala sauce, and fig-mozzarella-prosciutto pizza. House-made pastas, seasonal specials, plus vegan and gluten-free options round out the menu, meaning almost everybody can find something delicious to enjoy.
