Here’s your rundown of hand-picked Michigan events for this weekend.
Our lineup includes a holiday market at the UP State Fairgrounds, a prehistoric winter celebration where dinosaurs come alive, and a last chance to check out several holiday celebrations across the state.
As always, I’d love to hear your suggestions! If you know of an upcoming event you’d like me to highlight, please send me a note here (suggestions should be submitted at least one week before the event).

MI lawmakers announce bipartisan plan to repeal data center tax breaks (Bridge MI): State lawmakers are pushing to repeal recently approved tax breaks for hyperscale data centers, amid growing backlash over energy use, farmland loss, and lack of transparency. More than a dozen proposed facilities have sparked protests and local moratoriums, even as utilities and developers argue the projects would boost infrastructure and lower rates.
Consumers Energy asks for another rate increase (MLive): Consumers Energy has filed for its fourth straight annual natural gas rate hike, seeking a $240 million increase that would raise average residential bills by 8.2% if fully approved. While consumer watchdogs call the pace troubling, the utility says the hike is needed to fund gas system upgrades and ensure safety and reliability. Regulators are expected to decide next year, with any new rates taking effect in late 2026.
Oakland County announces measles case (WXYZ): A child in Oakland County has been diagnosed with measles. Officials said this marks the county’s second case this year. Possible exposure occurred Dec. 7 at DMC Huron Valley–Sinai Hospital’s emergency department, and officials are contacting those affected. The county urged residents to monitor symptoms and emphasized vaccination as the most effective protection.
