Labor Day weekend is coming up and Michiganders are taking full advantage of the extra day with events all across the state.

Highlights this week include a tabletop gaming convention in Grand Rapids, a chicken wing festival in Lansing, and music across Detroit.

To double the fun, The ’Gander’s Chaunie Brusie has also rounded up this list of free Labor Day weekend events you don’t want to miss.

Some Michigan colleges launch 3-year bachelor’s programs (Bridge Michigan): Michigan colleges are increasingly offering three-year bachelor’s degrees, aiming to cut the time and cost of earning a degree as enrollment and tuition concerns grow.

SE Michigan county removes Flock cameras following vandalism (Michigan Advance): Livingston County has temporarily removed its roughly 25 Flock license plate cameras after repeated vandalism, though the sheriff says the county plans to put them back once it can better protect them. The cameras remain controversial, while police departments defend them as investigative tools, community members have raised privacy and oversight concerns.

MLive to shift to fully digital (MLive): MLive Media Group will end printed editions of its eight Michigan newspapers on Dec. 6, shifting entirely to digital formats as print readership and subscriptions decline. The company stated the move will not affect MLive’s roughly 100-person newsroom staff.
