MICHIGAN—Another week, another blaze of headlines from Michigan’s cannabis world.

Whether you’re in the business or just a curious consumer, we’ve got the news you need.

Let’s get into it:

TARIFF TROUBLE: President Donald Trump’s on-again, off-again tariffs are rattling the state’s economy—including Michigan’s cannabis industry, which relies heavily on imported parts for vape pens, as well as packaging and other supplies that are now facing tariffs as high as 145%.

BUNNY BUST: Michigan dispensaries went all out for 420 this year. One of them even gave away a car. But daily sales were still down about 40% compared to last year—namely because the state’s biggest cannabis holiday happened to coincide with Easter Sunday this year..

ROUGH ROAD AHEAD: Brian Hanna, the state’s chief cannabis regulator, recently told state lawmakers that he expects many dispensaries to close or consolidate their operations over the next five years—namely because the state’s marijuana supply is outpacing the demand.

LOCK IT DOWN: The state’s largest cannabis lobbying organization is reportedly calling on state lawmakers to stop issuing new marijuana licenses—at least until the industry can get a grip on the plummeting prices, skimpy profit margins, and heavy black market competition.

WEST SIDE PICKS: Looking for the best dispensaries in Grand Rapids? WGRD 97.9 recently put together a listing of the city’s best pot shops—and I think they pretty much nailed it.

STINK BOMB: A skunky odor emanating from what local residents thought was an abandoned building recently led authorities in Berrien County to discover more than 550 marijuana plants and 34 lbs. of weed that had allegedly been grown and harvested without a state license.
