Your guide to taking action in Michigan ahead of the primary election (July 31-Aug. 4)

Michigan’s primary is almost here. Here’s how to be a poll challenger, mobilize voters, and get involved with Michigan’s Democratic US Senate campaigns.

Michigan Primary Election

With Michigan’s Aug. 4 primary election approaching, campaigns and advocacy organizations are making their final push to reach voters and are looking for volunteers to help. Whether you want to protect the voting process as a poll challenger, mobilize voters with One Team Michigan or Equality Michigan, or support Abdul El-Sayed or Haley Stevens for US Senate, there are opportunities to take action through Election Day.

Here’s a roundup of upcoming events and actions in Michigan:

Volunteer as a Poll challenger

Poll challengers play a vital role in safeguarding democracy by observing the voting process, reporting issues, and ensuring every eligible voter can cast their ballot. Multiple organizations are facilitating training and recruiting for poll challengers for the Aug. 4th Primary Election. To be a poll challenger, participants must complete the required training before July 31.

Build power for LGBTQ+ equality with Equality Michigan:

Queer Out the Vote Mixer (July 31, Traverse City, 5:30-7:30 p.m.) 

Join Equality Michigan for an evening of light apps, drinks, and community to kick off the Queer the Vote canvassing program ahead of the 2026 midterms. You’ll have the chance to meet others in the movement, learn more about Equality Michigan’s work in Northwest Michigan, and find out how you can get involved to mobilize voters. Equality Michigan will be hosting canvasses in the days following the event. 

Volunteer for a Michigan Democratic Candidate for US Senate 

Volunteer to help elect Abdul El-Sayed: 

  • Canvass: Go door-to-door to talk with voters. Find an event near you. 
  • Community Events: Connect with community members at community festivals, fairs, or farmers’ markets. Find an event near you. 

Volunteer to help elect Haley Stevens: 

  • Canvass or Phonebank: Go door to door or make calls to talk with voters. Find an event near you. 

Canvass with One Team Michigan

One Team Michigan is the coordinated campaign by the Michigan Democratic Party to elect Democratic candidates up and down the ballot. They’re hosting canvasses and phonebanks across the state to connect with voters.
