Trump admin threatens to withold SNAP funding from some states including Michigan (FOX 2): The Trump administration says it will start withholding SNAP funds from states, including Michigan, that refuse to hand over recipients’ names and immigration status. Agriculture officials say the data is needed to fight fraud, while Michigan and other Democratic-led states argue the request is an invasion of privacy and are suing to block it. Roughly 1.4 million Michiganders rely on SNAP, meaning the move could threaten food assistance for many families.
Department of Energy sends funds for Palisades plant (WWMT): The US Department of Energy is giving Holtec International, the company reviving the once-shuttered Palisades Nuclear Power Plant, $400 million to build two small modular nuclear reactors that would significantly boost the site’s power output. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer says the investment will boost clean energy, lower costs, and help Michigan make history as the first state to reopen a shuttered nuclear plant. Environmental groups are suing, claiming federal regulators bent rules to approve the project.
Victim in TC stabbing sues Walmart (IPR): A victim of July’s mass stabbing at a Traverse City Walmart is suing the company, alleging it failed to follow its own security policies despite clear warning signs from the attacker. Aaron Boudot says the store had no security, and employees didn’t respond effectively. Walmart says customer safety is a priority, and it will address the lawsuit in court.
