Michiganders are beginning to lean into the holiday season, as is evident by this week’s events. Highlights also include comic-cons in Michigan’s two largest cities, a Bigfoot festival Up North, and more.
As always, I’d love to hear your suggestions! If you know of an upcoming event you’d like me to highlight, please send me a note here (suggestions should be submitted at least one week before the event).

Northern lights visible in Michigan Wednesday (Freep): All of Michigan could see the northern lights tonight, Nov. 12, according to NOAA, with clear skies in much of the state offering a strong viewing chance. For the best view, head to a dark, open area away from city lights.
State of Michigan defends weed tax (WGVU): The state is defending Michigan’s new 24% wholesale marijuana tax in court filings, arguing it’s constitutional and separate from the voter-approved retail tax. Cannabis industry leaders say the tax violates the 2018 legalization law and will hurt legal sales; a court hearing on their injunction request is set for later this month.
Study finds Michigan’s fish are shrinking (Discover Wildlife): A new University of Michigan study finds fish in the state’s inland lakes have gotten smaller over the past 75 years, with both young and old fish shrinking as waters warm. Researchers say climate change and food availability are driving the trend, which could disrupt ecosystems and eventually lead to new fishing regulations.
