I’m coming at you early this week because the Green Wednesday and Black Friday dispensary madness is already boiling over—and some of these deals deserve to be on your radar today.

Also inside: the week’s biggest Michigan cannabis stories and a few shiny new products, including a pipe that looks like Elon Musk designed it while hotboxing a Cybertruck.

Besides 420, Thanksgiving week is basically the high holidays of Michigan’s cannabis scene.

We’ve got Green Wednesday, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday—and probably another one that I’m forgetting. And every dispensary seems to treat them like a competitive sport, stuffing our inboxes with more deals than we could ever smoke.

I sorted the junk mail and pulled out seven deals that are actually worth a damn. 

TREE TOWN TOPS: Ann Arbor has once again been crowned one of America’s most cannabis-friendly cities, namely for its deep stash of dispensaries and relaxed local vibes.

BORDER BLOWBACK: Officials in Niles Township, among other local Michigan communities that have banned cannabis businesses, are reportedly bracing for lawsuits from dozens of would-be dispensaries after voters recently slammed the door on the local marijuana market.

EXPORTED GOODS: State lawmakers are reportedly kicking around plans to let Michigan’s cannabis companies ship certain products to other states, at least until a federal loophole closes next year. Many Michigan-made gummies and drinks may already qualify for out-of-state sales.

PUFF PROBLEMS: PUFF Cannabis is reportedly suing the city of Menominee for at least $20 million in damages, claiming that officials green-lit its business license last December but then slow-rolled inspections and refused to issue an occupancy permit over parking-lot nitpicks. 

BUCKEYE BUZZKILL: Ohio lawmakers are considering legislation that would bar Ohioans from using or possessing any cannabis that wasn’t grown, tested, and sold inside Ohio’s own system. If enforced, the law could have serious implications for border town pot shops in Michigan.

SCHOOL RULES: Dispensaries are no longer required to be 1,000 feet from school zones in Ann Arbor, clearing the way for even more shops in a city that’s already swimming in them. Council members reportedly said the old rule boxed out businesses with no real safety benefit.

LETTUCE LOSES: A Benzie County judge has officially ordered Lettuce Cannabis Co. in Benzonia Township to shut down, denying the shop’s request to stay open while it appeals. The legal battle reportedly stems from a dispute over zoning. The ruling is set to be appealed.

Some pipes are made to be smoked. Some are made to be sat on the shelf and look cool. And every now and then, you find one that’s very obviously trying to do both.

This week’s featured product review leans hard into that territory. It’s shiny, heavy, and at first glance, it looks less like a pipe and more like something you’d find inside an art gallery. 

But here’s the part that surprised me: It actually smokes.

There’s something fun about bringing Michigan weed on the road. And last weekend, that meant cracking open a five-pack of Goldkine joints in the middle of downtown Chicago.

The city was doing its whole dramatic skyline thing over the river and this little hybrid five-pack turned out to be the perfect travel companion for 40,000 steps around the city.

Mint Chocolate Chip is a sweet, herbal, and mint-forward strain. And it has this warm chocolatey finish that somehow matches the feeling of being wrapped in a puffy coat while the wind blasts off Lake Michigan. A couple puffs kept me stoned yet present enough for an all-day stroll along the riverwalk—and hungry enough to justify stopping at five restaurants along the way.
