It’s been one of those weeks where the weed scene feels more like a TV show than an industry. There’s a dispensary under fire for giving away free weed under a fake name. Another owner was caught using a racial slur in a text. And one of the state’s biggest brands is selling out.

Yet somehow, amid all the drama, there’s still plenty of good news to be shared—including a new pack of pre-rolled joints that could send you and a friend to the Super Bowl.

He’s not real. But state regulators say Muha Meds used an account under his name to move thousands of grams of concentrate off the books. Now, the company is facing some very real consequences.

FLOS FIASCO: The Detroit Metro Times dropped a bombshell of a story last week: Flos Cannabis owner Timmy Holton was caught using the N-word in a text about a former employee. Then, he tried to say he’s “not racist” and just said something “stupid” in the heat of the moment.

TAX TIME: Michigan’s $3 billion cannabis market is staring down its biggest shake-up yet with a new wholesale tax and other regulations making their way through the state Legislature. The Detroit Free Press broke it all down in a handy Q&A. But the short version? Our $60 ounces could soon cost $100. And Michigan’s wide-open weed market may soon look a bit different.

COURT FIGHT: The legal battle over Michigan’s new 24% wholesale weed tax is still ongoing, with the Michigan Cannabis Industry Association reportedly asking a judge to hit the pause button on the new tax before it’s allowed to take effect as scheduled on Jan. 1, 2026. 

MARKET SHIFT: California’s Highway Cannabis now owns Pleasantrees in what’s being described as the industry’s first major business deal since the new wholesale tax was passed.

CANNABIS 101: State Sen. Dayna Polehanki (D-Livonia) is pushing for a new law that would require public schools to send parents flyers about the risks of high-potency weed, vapes, and edibles—similar to materials that are already being sent out regarding gun safety laws. 

ROSIN REUNION: Michigan heavyweights Hytek and Growing Pains are reportedly linking up to release an exclusive new product at Burn 1 in Utica. The limited-edition mixed-wash rosin is expected to sell out quickly during the launch party from 4-11 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6.

I found mine this week at Ascend in East Lansing, where Redemption ounces have quietly hit the shelves for just $60 each—a new all-time low for one of my favorite brands on the market.

Unlike most bargain-bin products, you can always count on Redemption for fresh, aromatic, and potent buds that smoke like something that should be twice the price. I bought five ounces. The shop couldn’t say how long the deal will last, so it’s worth keeping tabs on the online menu.

Redemption has been my go-to “budget that doesn’t feel budget” brand for years now. And if the market’s going to keep crashing, at least we’re going down with smooth, flavorful weed. 

Some lines are worth waiting in. 

The new Hot ’n Now drive-thru in Wayland isn’t one of them.

Over the weekend, I spent 40 minutes crawling toward a sack of nostalgia-bait burgers, only to find that the fries were the real MVP and that the apple turnover somehow stole the show. As for the burgers? Let’s just say they reminded me why some memories should stay in the past.
