LANSING—Fall in Michigan lasts about three weeks.
It runs from the first night you dig your hoodie out of the closet to the first morning you’re scraping frost off the windshield. It’s a tight window. And you’ve got to make it count.
Luckily, Michigan’s cannabis brands are already dressed for Halloween.
I haven’t tried everything on this list, so think of it as a scouting report—not a review.
Here are six picks worth checking out at the dispensary before Halloween:
1. Cannabis Apple Cider by Armada Cannabis
Last year, I rounded up three different THC-infused ciders.
This year, I’m sticking with the one that tastes the most like an actual cider mill.
Armada‘s Sparkling Sweet Apple cider is made with fresh-pressed Michigan apples and 20 mg of THC per can. It’s not too sweet, not too dry, and best served cold with some cider mill donuts.
It’s got some fresh company this fall, too.
The new “Phillip Noir” cider blend mixes blood orange and cranberry with 50 mg of THC per can. The “Triple Jam Live Rosin” cider drop also packs 50 mg of live rosin from Apex Solventless into a cider that tastes like strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries.
It’s worth noting: 50 mg of THC is a lot of weed for one drink, so sip it; don’t shotgun it.
Armada is canned in Mount Clemens by Emerald Canning Partners, a joint venture between Blake’s Hard Cider and Pleasantrees that makes a lot of the infused drinks in Michigan.
2. MichiGanja Hot Chocolate
One of my all-time favorite seasonal cannabis products has all but vanished.
Last year, this guide featured Northern Connections and its 50 mg hot cocoa and cappuccino mixes. But this year, they’ve almost entirely disappeared from dispensary shelves.
Weirdly, nobody has stepped in to fill the gap.
In my research, I found plenty of infused seltzers and drink powders on the market, but not one company making a cozy hot cocoa mix for Michigan’s longest, coldest months.
So, this year I’m making my own.
Kiva Confections has a recipe on its blog, and the gist is simple: melt an infused chocolate bar into a saucepan of hot milk. Just do the milligram math before you drop the whole bar in.
3. Cookies by Fat & Weird x Gelato
I searched everywhere for a pumpkin spice edible this year and came up empty.
Maybe Michigan’s weed companies finally noticed that nobody buys them after Thanksgiving.
Instead, check out this new collaboration from Gelato Cannabis and Fat & Weird. They’re cookies infused with Gelato’s distillate—200 mg of THC per cookie—and they come in five flavors: Big Sexy, Pitchen Tents, Massive Eruption, Cookie Anonymous, and Dubai Chocolate.
Personally, I’m keeping an eye out for the Dubai Chocolate. The viral pistachio candy bar took over the internet, so it was only a matter of time before somebody in Michigan got it stoned.
Fair warning: If you eat a whole cookie in one sitting, it’ll probably ruin your night.
4. Caramel Apple Potcorn by BANNED Edible Co.
BANNED Edible Co. makes some of the strongest edibles I’ve ever had.
They knock me on my ass every single time, and I still haven’t figured out their secret. The company also has one of the widest lineups in the state, with dozens and dozens of products.
This fall’s latest seasonal special is caramel apple-flavored popcorn, with 200 mg of THC per bag. It’s crunchy, festive, and absolutely not meant to be eaten in a single sitting.
Pour it in a bowl for movie night at home—and maybe label the bowl.
5. Autumn Haze by Jeeter
Confession: I’m not a Jeeter guy.
Too much of their stuff tastes like cotton candy instead of weed. But plenty of Michiganders disagree with me here, and it’s still one of the best-selling pre-roll brands in the state.
I’ll give them points for leaning into the season, though.
Autumn Haze promises sweet apple, honey, and a touch of nuttiness, with a slow, creeping, euphoric high, and it comes in both pre-roll and vape form. What a time to be alive. Jeeter’s “Autumn essentials” lineup also includes Cider Crumble and Pomegranate Paloma.
Check the clearance rack in December. I’d bet money they’ll still be there.
6. Black paper pre-rolls by Voodoo
Last year, I called Voodoo‘s casket-boxed, skeleton-wrapped vape carts some of the most fun packaging on dispensary shelves. This year, the Harrison Township brand went darker. Literally.
Voodoo’s latest pre-rolls come wrapped in jet-black paper, and the company says nobody else in Michigan makes anything like it. The paper is an ultra-thin rice paper colored with a natural dye, so you only taste the strain and not the paper. They come five to a cigarette-style box.
Is it a gimmick? Yeah. But so is carving a face into a pumpkin, and we do that every year.
